FAQs
What happens during a consultation? A consultation typically involves a phone or video conversation between you and a provider. During the consultation, the provider will listen to your concerns and needs, ask questions to gain a better understanding of the situation, and provide suggestions for treatment options. The goal of the call is to help you and the provider gain clarity on your situation, and build a plan for moving forward.
What happens in a therapy session? A therapy session is a time for you to discuss and explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment. During a session, a therapist may use different techniques and strategies to help you better understand your thoughts and feelings. The specific goals of a session vary depending on your needs and goals. Generally, though, a session can provide you with a greater understanding of yourself, help you work through difficult emotions, and develop coping strategies for the future.
How many sessions does it take to feel better? The number of psychotherapy sessions necessary to feel better can vary greatly from individual to individual. It can depend on many factors such as the type of therapy, the severity of the issue, the client's commitment to the process, and the client's individual needs. It is important to note that psychotherapy is an ongoing process and it can take a period of time for the client to experience the benefits. If you are considering psychotherapy, it is important to discuss your expectations and your progress with your therapist to ensure that you get the most out of your sessions.
Can I use my health insurance? The following health insurance plans are accepted:
AETNA PPO/HMO
AETNA Ambetter Betterhealth Medicaid
Ambetter *fully licensed providers only
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan PPO
Blue Care Network HMO *fully licensed providers only
Blue Care Complete Medicaid
McLaren PPO/HMO/Medicaid
Meridian Medicaid
Priority Health PPO/HMO/Medicaid
It’s important to check with your health insurance company to determine if you have a deductible, copay, or any restrictions prior to receiving care.
If you have Ambetter or Blue Care Network and would like to see an LLMSW, we encourage you to reach out to those plans member services department. Let them know their arbitrary policies that do not permit LLMSW’s to be covered by their plans should change. LLMSW’s are qualified and excellent providers. These policies further limit access during a time when access it already a challenge for marginalized communities.
If you also do not see your insurance your plan listed, please know that is because they either pay a rate that is not just compensation for providers or they do not allow LLMSW’s to provide services. Believe it or not, speaking out to your insurance company can influence them to change or enact policies that positively impact your services.
